Construction of a new mixed-use condominium in Midtown Ala Moana neighborhood set to begin early this year
HONOLULU – Demolition in the Midtown Ala Moana neighborhood began today, setting the stage for construction of Azure Ala Moana, a new transit-oriented development (TOD) project. The first TOD project approved under the City’s new ordinance, Azure includes 330 for-sale condominium residences, 78 rental apartments and 21,268 square-feet of commercial real estate space all under one roof, including a public plaza for programmed community events. Construction is slated for completion in 2021.
“With over 60 percent of the units sold under three months, we’ve been able to accelerate our schedule,” said Rick Stack, executive vice president, ProsPac Holdings Group. “Demolition brings us closer to the highly-anticipated start of construction of Azure Ala Moana and delivering much-needed homes and rental apartments to this community.”
Located on Keeaumoku Street mauka of the Honolulu flagship Walgreens store, Azure Ala Moana will help towards the new revitalization of the neighborhood. Sitting on the former location of Stardust Lanes bowling alley, the development will be a vibrant community focal point reminiscent of the 1960s when weekend crowds overflowed the popular Scotty’s Drive-in and Chip’s Coffee Shop after a movie at Kapiolani Drive-in Theatre or spent the evening dancing and roller skating at Rainbow Rollerland.
“Many locals fondly remember this neighborhood, now called Midtown Ala Moana, as the place to be back in the 60s,” said Stack. “Azure Ala Moana will transform the location into the bustling, thriving center for the community.”
A subsidiary of ProsPac Holdings Group, Azure Ala Moana, LLC launched sales of the condominium residences in mid-September last year, offering hundreds of interested buyers a view of the two-bedroom model residence, and the opportunity to purchase one-, two- and three-bedroom homes. Azure Ala Moana provides an unparalleled combination of contemporary design, exceptional amenities and stunning views in an incredibly convenient location.
“This area is a diverse, active and authentic neighborhood waiting to be rediscovered,” said Stack. “Our residents will be steps away from signature Honolulu restaurants and retailers, Hawaii’s premier shopping destination and a multitude of services including doctor’s offices, banks, dry cleaners and more. Everything they need will be minutes from their door.”
ProsPac Holdings Group has engaged a seasoned team to create a project that celebrates Hawaii’s culture while providing tremendous value to the community.
The Azure Ala Moana sales gallery is located on the 14th floor of the Pacific Guardian Tower, 1440 Kapiolani Boulevard and is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Condominium residences are currently for sale, with applications for the complex’s rental apartments and commercial spaces available at a later date as construction nears completion.
