Demolition began on the 1.1-acre site on the corner of Keeaumoku and Makaloa streets, the future home of Azure Ala Moana.
Last month, demolition began on the second section. The final section of the previous structure was demolished and removed from the site.
Remaining debris was cleared, and the site was leveled.
The groundbreaking ceremony marked the official start of construction. Attendees included Mayor Kirk Caldwell and other local politicians.
The site was prepped for foundation work and auger cast piles were installed.
The tower crane was erected, and over the course of three days, was lifted to 278 feet high. The crane will be raised periodically as construction progresses, and at its tallest will be 507 feet high.
The team began work on the two mat foundations beneath Azure. These massive, steel-reinforced concrete mats provide the primary support for the tower.
Foundation work continued. Reinforcing bars (aka rebar) were set throughout to strengthen and aid the concrete under tension.
We’ve begun going vertical! Columns of rebar sprouted up from the foundation work and were cast with concrete to create massive pillars throughout the site.
By the start of the new year, the construction crew was working on the 4th floor parking level.
Six levels of the elevator corridor were completed.
The man hoist elevators were installed, these transport workers and materials up and down the tower in an efficient manner.
Concrete for the final parking level was poured, which marked the completion of Azure’s podium. Progress begun on the tower at about one floor per week.
After completing the retail plaza, on-site storage, parking structure, and a portion of the 9th floor amenity deck, work begun on the tower’s first residential floor.
The tower began to take shape after the glass installation on the makai side. Then, the construction crew began installing framing and drywall to the residences.
With the tower getting taller by the week, the crane was raised for the first time from 279 to 412 feet.
The second man hoist elevator was put into use as the tower reached the 23rd floor.
The 30th floor was poured, and lanai railing installations began.
The tower crane was “jumped” to its final height of 507 feet. Inside the residences, cabinet installation began on the lower floors of the tower.
Work on the amenity deck continued with concrete pours and waterproofing.
Installation and completion of each home’s lanai continued throughout the tower.
The construction team reached a huge milestone when the tower was topped off!
Railing caps were installed on the lanai throughout the tower.
On the amenity level, installation began on the structural steel and metal roofing for the cabanas, as well as on the pool’s concrete shell.
Civil work ramped up. The team removed the barricades along Keeaumoku Street for sidewalk restoration and ground-floor site work continued.
Tower finishes and corridor work is ongoing. Architects have begun inspecting residences, ensuring Azure’s high standards of quality are met.
Both the crane and temporary man hoist have been removed, and the construction team was able to complete the glazing on the exterior of the building. Also, the construction fence came down and the team has started installing pavers at the project’s main driveway.
The Level 9 amenity deck’s interiors are well underway. Outside on the recreation deck, concrete pavers are near complete and the team has begun landscaping around the perimeter.
Ipe wood decking on the amenity level is complete, and the installation of the azure-colored pool tile is in progress.
The pool on the amenity deck has been filled with water, and all of the final city inspections are wrapping up.
Homeowners have started to move in! As for the commercial space on the first and second floors, glass and doors have been installed and finishing touches continue.
By fall 2021, residents will be able to enjoy Azure’s convenient Ala Moana location, resort-style amenities, and sophisticated and spacious floor plans.
